Hazard Community & Technical College appreciates your interest in taking a distance learning course with us. The purpose of the distance learning orientation is to make sure you are aware and fully understand what distance learning courses are and what all they entail.
Distance learning, also called online learning or eLearning, is different than traditional learning in a classroom. The learning reaches beyond the college campus borders through the use of various technologies.
Students taking online classes must be self-motivated, self-directed learners, good readers, comfortable with individualized modes of learning, fairly comfortable with technology, do not need the stimulation of a traditional class, and do not procrastinate.
Students need to understand that more time will be spent with distance learning courses than attending a class. Distance learning students should expect to spend on average at least 6-8 hours/weekly for each class.
Students also need the motivation to adapt to a nontraditional learning environment and the patience to deal with occasional technical glitches.

Note: At the end of this orientation you will have the opportunity to print a certificate of completion and to email the score results to the Distance Learning Coordinator. It is recommended you email the scores and print the certificate.
