Technical Requirements

You don't have to be a technology wizard to take an online course; however, you must be comfortable with your system and be willing to deal with any problems that may arise.

These are the minimum Computer Requirements for Distance Learning classes that are Web-KYVU, Web-enhanced, Web-Hybrid, or Web Local. Please scroll down and review the requirements, then click Next >> to continue with the orientation.

NOTE: Some classes that require software to be installed may require a higher version of Operating System, more RAM, and more free disk space. If you do not have the recommended components below in red, your access to materials and to the internet can be very slow.

• Operating System:Windows 98 or higher (Windows XP or higher is recommended)
  Mac OS 8.0 or higher
• RAM:512 MB (1 GB recommended)
• Free Disk Space:25 MB (50 MB recommended)
• CPU:PC: 266 MHz or higher (500MHz or higher recommended)
  Mac: PowerMacintosh or higher
• Browser:PC: Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, Netscape Navigator 7.1 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher
  Mac: Netscape Navigator 7.1 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher.
• Browser Settings:JavaScript enabled
  Popup blockers disabled
  Cookies enabled
• Plugins:Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0 or higher (free).Macromedia Flash
  Macromedia ShockwaveSupplementary Software:Microsoft Word and PowerPoint or
  MS Word Reader and PowerPoint Reader
• Connection:56K modem
  (DSL or cable recommended for video/graphic intensive courses)
• Other Hardware:

Other Requirements

• Your course may also require you to have access to a videotape, VCR, or DVD player,
• Your course may require a special plug-in (free) such as access to streaming media (video / audio clips).

In Blackboard, you can click on the Help tab, scroll down and click Browser Test. This will check your browser settings for any missing plug-ins or add-ons necessary.

Please note: If you are taking a course that requires other additional software, the requirements maybe different than what is listed above.
