It is very important to have the proper computer requirements and is vital to the success of your distance learning experience.

Requirements

Access to a personal computer. A Pentium I processor with Windows 95 (98 or 2000 preferred) and 32 MB RAM (or more) or a Macintosh/Apple computer with OS 7.0 or higher with access to a printer is recommended.

Please keep in mind that more tehnical type classes may require other hardware and software.

Reliable e-mail software and an active e-mail account. KCTCS provides all students with a Student Email Account

Reliable Internet access with a 28.8 Kbps modem, 56k (or higher recommended) and Use of a web browser.

Access to current word processing software (Microsoft Word preferred) or the ability to convert files to Rich Text Format (RTF).

Your course may require a special plug-in (free) such as access toStreaming Media (video/audio clips). CLICK HERE to go to KYVU's website for common Software Plug-ins .

Computer Skills

Understanding web and PC basics .
Understanding Email Basics including e-mail attachments .
Ability to search for information on the Internet .
Understanding how to download software such as plug-ins.
Understanding and using netiquette .

Remember: Lack of technical knowledge can greatly interfere with your learning a new subject. If you do not have the above skills, consider taking a computer course prior to enrolling in an online course.
