Kentucky School of Craft Faculty

The success of our programs at the Kentucky School of Craft will in-large part depend on putting the students in the hands of capable instructors. Our national search has yielded two such individuals and, while the school year is still quite young, they have proven to be exemplary instructors and valuable resources to the School's future planning.

"We are assembling one of the finest group of faculty members and building one of the finest craft facilities in the country", states Tim Glotzbach, Dean of the Kentucky School of Craft. "I have no doubt that students will come here from across the country, due in large part to the reputations of these outstanding individuals."

DOUGLAS HARLING - JEWELRY/METALS

Douglas Harling from Greensboro , North Carolina , joins HCTC in the position of Master Artisan in Jewelry/Metalsmithing. Doug received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Metals from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale . Doug's teaching experience is rich and varied, having taught at the university level, as a resident artist at Penland School of Craft and other professional craft programs coast to coast. He is a master in the techniques of goldsmithing and granulation in particular. He is as much a scientist and metallurgist as he is a romantically, classical gold-smith. His works are intellectual, metaphorical and rich in eclectic histories. His technical expertise has propelled him to national acclaim as one of the rising young stars in jewelry and metals. Doug's background in business management coupled with his studio expertise is a definite plus for the students.
