When
you first come into the Student Support Services Program you will
be working with Edna Gross especially during your first two semesters.
She will be your Counselor. You will meet with her
THREE TIMES your first semester and TWO TIMES during your second
semester. In these meetings you will be given similar Assessments
to the ones you took during your Intake Session when you entered
the Program. These Assessments will assist you in developing
your skills for college level work. After your first two
semesters you will see Edna just ONCE, provided all is well.

Each
student will receive a battery of different Assessments in conjunction
with their LASSI (Learning and Study Skills Assessment).
The LASSI was the first Assessment you took at your orientation
meeting. Edna will discuss the results of these Assessments
with you and together you and she will search out ways to improve
your particular skills.

The
taking of Assessments is a proven method of assisting you in your
staying in college. It is a quick, non-threatening, and efficient
way of uncovering the various skills needed for your retention in
college. Unfortunately, the drop out rate for college is
very high. Your Retention Coordinator is trained in spotting
elements in your cognitive and non-cognitive skills that can cause
you difficulty in the future. An ounce of prevention is worth
a ton toward success. The information you gain in these assessments
will empower you to higher achievements. Our goal is your
graduation from college. |
